Social services
ASTT provides social services support, information, and referrals that help address a range of concerns that affect survivors of torture and war trauma. These may include psychosocial adjustment, living situation, medical and nutritional status, or cultural and linguistic barriers.
Many different types of resources and expertise are required to adequately respond to these issues. In order to effectively meet clients’ diverse needs, ASTT has established links with over forty agencies, institutions, and community organizations that offer services for refugees and immigrants. Through these partnerships, ASTT helps clients gain access to housing, food banks and clothing depots, job training, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes as well as support groups such as local cultural or faith organizations.
The following is a partial list of the prominent agencies with which ASTT has developed partnerships:
- Baltimore Resettlement Center
- Lutheran Social Services Refugee Employment Program
- Caroline Center for Employment and Training
- CASA of Maryland
- Asylum Seeker Housing Network
- Maryland Office of New Americans
To better address clients’ needs for various types of medical care, ASTT has also established alliances with Mercy Hospital in Baltimore and Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
